The JONATHAN COHEN collection is about transformation and imaginative creation immersed in a world of diverse beauty and adventure. Easy, wearable day to evening clothing with a slightly romantic aesthetic that is never too precious are designed to appeal to women of many walks of life - from the surfer girls of his youth to the chic women of capital cities of the world.
Evolving from a respect for classic construction, the designer experiments with 3- dimensional form, alchemically customized colors and prints, as well as limitless surface treatments, favoring luxurious fabrics and finishings mixed with unconventional, modern textures like neoprenes and linens. The two constants that run through the designer’s creative focus – a love of vibrant coastal culture and a strong impulse to transform simple materials into something unexpected, mysterious and covetable.
The collection thrives on multi-dimensional influences - music, architecture and world cultures serve as a constant and rich source of inspiration. The woman as an artistic canvas, exuding freedom and expression, continues to spark Jonathan's creative voice, especially those among the fashion set, including Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o and actress Anna Chlumsky, both of whom are fans of his latest collections.
With an expertise in design and pattern making, learned from his studies at Parsons School of Design, refined in the studios of Doo.Ri Chung, Ashleigh Verrier and Oscar de la Renta where he apprenticed, Jonathan consistently applies a knowledge of high quality fabrics and superb fit, to create womenswear collections under his eponymous label. Born and raised in San Diego, California by Mexican parents, Jonathan Cohen, in partnership with Sarah Leff who oversees the operational and commercial side of the business, was founded in 2011 in New York City.
