Troy is a detail-oriented and innovative womenswear designer who is good at pattern cutting and possesses a deep understanding of fabrics. With a creative and surrealistic mindset, Troy brings a unique perspective to his work by infusing artistic elements and imagination into his designs. He is also willing to challenge himself: he eagerly embraces different design development methods, constantly seeking new techniques and processes to enhance his work. This open-mindedness allows him to experiment and push the boundaries of his creativity, resulting in innovative and captivating designs.

Troy's Final Major Project is inspired by “The Human Chair” by Edogawa Ranpo, he skilfully incorporates lace, suits, and leather to successfully capture the eerie yet romantic atmosphere he aims to convey. The choice of fabrications plays a crucial role in achieving the desired aesthetic. Moreover, Troy's designs showcase remarkable structural and technical prowess. The garments exhibit intricate construction techniques and meticulous attention to detail, reflecting his dedication to craftsmanship. He also explores the purpose of clothing by introducing a transformative element to his designs. Through innovative methods, he allows the wearer to customise their own look by removing the foam or structure inside the garments. This approach is not only innovative but also challenges the boundaries of traditional design.

SOFA

My final major project draws inspiration from Edogawa Ranpo's unsettling yet romantic tale, 'The Human Chair.' The story revolves around a man's desperate attempt to get closer to a woman by concealing himself within a sofa. The unsuspecting woman, captivated by the sofa's texture and touch, grows fond of it, only to discover the hidden occupant inside. Surprisingly, instead of being frightened, she becomes infatuated with the notion of the sofa becoming the man's new "skin." Tragically, the man eventually perishes within the confines of the sofa. In an act of memorialization, the woman decides to preserve his memory by removing the upholstery and wearing it as a coat.

My collection explores the human silhouette, reimagining furniture forms as representations of human shapes. The transformative nature of the sofa coat is a central theme, seamlessly transitioning it into wearable attire. By incorporating elements like removable foam or structure within the garments, wearers gain the freedom to customize their appearance, allowing the garments to adapt to different venues and embody both avant-garde and wearable styles.

The fabric selections draw inspiration from the luxurious textures found in furniture, while also introducing innovative elements that bridge the gap between human clothing and the concept of the sofa coat. Wool takes center stage as the primary material, complemented by lace, velvet, and spray-painted leather. These fabric choices capture the eerie yet romantic atmosphere that underlies the project's intent.
