LOVE IMPROCHORI

The initial idea for my concept came from Coraline, a book by Neil Gaiman which is a story about a little girl who moves away from her comfort zone into a new place where she faces her biggest fears and ultimately triumphs. The way fear and bravery are handled throughout the story was what lead my research to knights and armory, and the process of “Arming the Knight” in order to protect their bodies successfully. My heroine is fragile and frightened but she’s also very brave and the garments are going to protect her and act as her armor against her fears. My six outfits are going to portray the transition from being frightened to being brave. The first outfit to come out will have many layers because at the beginning my heroine is in a state of fear but gradually she will shed layers off to show that her bravery is taking over and by the last outfit, she’s going to be left with only one layer. The collection consists of base garments which hug and comfort the heroine and armor pieces which protect and strengthen her. The base garments feature colors in maroon, navy blue and beige and appear rigid in strict symmetry, while the outer garments -the armor pieces- are made in custom gray laser cut wool.
