Isabel is a recent graduate from Winchester School of Art with a BA Degree in Knitwear for Fashion Design. She is inspired by landscape, abstract art and anthropology, and this is the starting point for much of her work. She is also passionate about using natural fibres, such as mohair, merino, cotton and silk, as well as looking at ways of creating sustainable collections through recycling and sourcing sustainable yarns and fabrics. Her garments tend to have a minimalistic feel with a focus on embellishment within the fabric and trims.

Within The Landscape

The initial inspiration for the collection came from a coast to coast road trip across the US that Isabel went on a few years ago. She was really inspired by the changing landscapes and the variety of colours within the light and landscape itself. While travelling she learned a lot about the history and culture of Native Americans, in particular the Navajos, while crossing states such as Arizona and New Mexico, and that made her want to look further into their culture, especially looking at their crafts and the way hand woven textiles is a major source of income in the community. From there she started looking at woven and artisan hand crafted textiles more widely, gathering inspiration broader range of anthropological textiles and current trends such as woven wall hangings and macrame which ties into her interest in interiors and environment in a more general sense.

Isabel's garment inspiration initially came from workwear, looking at land girls and outdoor wear. She then combined the idea of jeans and comfort clothes with embellished, handcrafted knit samples to create her collection. Her work is made with 100% natural fibres such as mohair, silk and cotton to reflect the natural theme of the collection, and to keep it ‘part of the landscape’. She is also very interested in slow, sustainable fashion and therefore has tried to make the collection as eco-friendly as possible, for example recycling the denim offcuts from her trousers by shredding them and weaving them into some of the other garments.
