My project represents my personal struggle, as well as that of many humans, with accepting my own humanity. As a society we have come to feel shame for the most basic of needs, this phenomenon has been exacerbated by the uncertainty and stress that surround the current political and health climate. The needs I am focusing on in my collection are the two most prevalent in my own acceptance of what it means to be human: food and love.

I have noticed that students feel shame for the need to eat and to be loved, the most basic of human functions. I am seeking to normalize this shame we feel for human need and normalize the acts that help us to not only survive, but live. Humanity is imperfection, it is these little cracks and gaps in the surface of what we are supposed to be that makes us who we are. In essence it is about reclaiming your humanness and rejecting the notion that unhappiness for the sake of perfection is a success.
