ELYSIA

Kinetic Twist was primarily based on the kinetic works of the futurist artist and designer Bruno Munari. The collection was initially inspired by a kinetic installation on display at the ‘Bruno Munari: My Futurist Past’ exhibition at the Estorick Collection in London. The twists and folds in this three-dimensional ‘Concave-Convex’ sculpture played a major influence throughout the design process. The structure itself represented the infinite curvature of space, a theme continually explored and referenced throughout the collection.
References to fashion designer Pierre Cardin were made, whom also shared a particular interest in the cosmos and futurism. His style was both minimal and timeless, a quality that was adopted in these designs.
In addition, a selection of print designs were developed using a ‘moiré effect’, inspired by Bruno Munari’s ‘original xerographies’. In terms of colour inspiration, artist and designer Carlos Cruz- Diez was referenced. Primarily known for his experimentations with line and colour to create unique moiré patterns, installations, and paintings.
