What forces give form to our consciousness and being,
throughout our yesterdays and tomorrows?

ELOHIM’s Fall/Winter 2015-16 collection investigates the substance of the things that make us, through a multidimensional meditation of the boldly colored rock formations of China’s danxia landforms, found predominantly in the south and northwest.

Peculiar and awe-inspiring, these geomorphic masses are the outcome of red sandstone and mineral sediments that have been deposited over millennia. Crimson and vermilion layers buckled under the same tectonic plates that shaped parts of the Himalayan mountains, forming curiously striped landscapes. Wind and rain carved valleys and towers, ravines and pillars that vary in color, texture, shape and size, and are still changing in aspect ever so indeterminably.

Transposing the stylistic features to the silhouette and look of the wearer, ELOHIM FW15-16 mimics the effect of erosive processes in nature with a focus on layering and overlapping, with a color palette of red, orange, black, white and grey. Playing on the landform’s textural variances, the collection pieces together material contrasts: sports mesh with solid black neoprene, dual tone fabrics of neoprene with cotton coding on top, abstract prints and stripes, cloaking the wearer with a greater emphasis on coats and sweatshirts for the fall.

To reference the theme, a custom abstract digital print of the danxia formations was created, interspersing figurative moments into the procession, as a tribute to the natural history of our everyday lives.

Like people, danxia landforms have been eroded in places, raised in others. Given over to the upheavals and lulls that happen over the span of time, the rocks experience the unfathomable, the unreasonable, and yet the undeniable forces of nature that ultimately have fashioned such wonderful characteristics in and through them.

Retaining the minimalism, androgyny and geometrical structure known to the brand, the Fall/Winter collection stays true to the classic principles of ELOHIM, while advancing its exploration of qualities changing over time, just as elements shape the landscape of creation.
