Taking into consideration the theme “Centenary” and how fashion has evolved over the last century, I decided to look at the period in the early 1900’s. The title of my design project is “Shipping up to Boston” and I have explored, through photography, a nautical theme suitable for a spring summer collection. How women dressed on ships during periods of immigration between Ireland and America inspired ideas of the corset, and full skirts. I combined this historical inspiration with contemporary colours, surfaces and structures found in my own visual research.
