Bazza Alzouman

There is an old world charm flawlessly merging with a modernist approach to tailoring synonymous with Bazza Alzouman’s work. This season sees the Kuwaiti designer dive into the late 1930s and ‘The Sound of Music’ set in the same era for inspiration, lending to the
collection pared down silhouettes apparent during the brink of World War II, and countered with the musical film’s lighthearted,
escapist mood.
Alzouman presents Spring/Summer 2019 in the form of non-constraining silhouettes that accentuate the natural waist with slick skirts crafted from crepe, silk chiffon And pleated organza proposed in different lengths: mini to floor -grazing gowns, and her favored tea length.
A scooped back, romantic ruffles and billowing puff sleeves draw attention to a slender back or bare shoulders. The collection plays out in warm tones from sienna to chocolate browns, teamed with softer hues of blush pink, pale coral, beige and cream, while subtle embellishments include buttons,
chevron or pinstripe beading. Almost parallel to the movement of readY- to-
wear gaining popularity in ‘30s as women began leading busier liveS, the Parsons -trained designer also continues to magnify her offering of occasion wear separates. Created with the same codes of craftsmanship as the evening wear, references to the era prevail in the form of jumpsuits and overalls paired with tulle bodysuits patterned after britches and suspenders.
