Yue Wu

Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather covers. By learning the technique, I mainly used the original material, the fabric of sofa, as well as boning, to phantasize the mixing image of seats and human body together. The process of restoring furniture is also a restoration of the time we spend with the seats, and the life we depend on them. In the shared stillness, we console each other with the furniture and the living environment, blending into one another. The fabric of the seats is like our second skin, intricately connected to our breath. Obsessed with the intricate interior structure, I also deconstruct the chairs structure into the design of garments. Despite their soft outward appearance, the inner framework proved to be hard and sturdy.
It’s about healing, reviving, accompanying, and the salvation of a broken soul.
