Yihan Wang is a knitwear designer based in New York. She saw knitting as another design perspective with only one design parameter; it is not designing in yet another technique. She often exists as a listener, observer and fantasist. She created each piece as a container, carrying stories from nothing to something, from yarns to garments, from plain to rich. She hope her knitted garments can give different audiences infinite reverie, and fill her designs with the stories of the wearers.

"Fashion should be a form of escapism and not a form of imprisonment."
As a knitwear designer, I explored safety and comfort that knitwear can provide, considering how the tactile nature of the textile can create a sense of physical and emotional grounding. In fluffy and thick knitting, although there will be a comfortable wearing experience, at the same time it will lose the sense of security, which comes from the lack of human body shapes. In my thesis project, I developed different knitting techniques to create a unique interactive experience between knitting and human body to balance the emotional and psychological dimensions of knitting: from tight to loose, from soft to hard, from light to heavy, from insecure to comfortable...
