Wenqi Wu was born in Shanghai, where his childhood was guided by traditional Confucian values and by practicing Chinese Calligraphy. These traditional trainings influenced his design to focus on lines and shapes. After moving to New York with his family at age 15, the contradictions between these two distinct cultures shaped Wen’s visual sensibility on culture and fashion.
During his studies at Parsons the New School for Design, Wenqi had a glimpse of the industry through internships with Donna Karan Collection and Bibhu Moh-hapatra. Wenqi also won first place for the first ever Gianfranco Ferré Foundation x Parsons ‘I am architect’ competition. During his senior year, his desire to expand his technical and craftsmanship skills earned him sponsorships with Saga Fur and Shoe Polytechnic.
Wen plans to create a brand that combined with his artful aesthetic, and also creates youthful, effortless pieces with a twist of utilitarian chic. He hopes to infuse the ‘Wenqi Wu’ brand with the same unique detail and craftsmanship, personality and creativity that brought him to fashion in the first place.
