Heavily inspired by architectural forms, science, nature and art. Driven by a passion for process and material craftsmanship; the constructed designs naturally evolve into 'wearable art'. In constant exploration of designing innovative textile, materials & techniques. The manipulation and transformation of the human body plays a big part in my work, the focus on the silhouette and unusual fabric choices. Highly interested in exploring the physical, emotional and psychological reactions the human being experiences; translating this into the design practice.

DYS | MORPHE

DYS | MORPHE AW 2015/16 concentrates on the human body morphing it's shape to question the viewer whether they find the new silhouette attractive ? Dysmorphe is a greek definition: Badness of Form I was initially inspired by BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder), this is where the affected person has an anxiety disorder causing them to have a distorted view of how they look. Thus, making the person spend a lot of time worrying about their over exaggerated "imperfections". I was interested in taking the "flaws" further, by creating new ways of working with fabric, creating "second skins" that would protect and cover the body, whilst exposing unusual tactile qualities that a viewer could touch - the texture making them either repulsed or enjoy the experience.

The whole collection is about "perception". It is about the imperfect, oversized silhouettes, the unnerving tactile qualities of the materials and how each individual responds to the new evolved "bodies". The digital prints used within the collection, are jarred organs I had photographed at museums in London and St Petersburg, Russia. The colours have been enhanced to create a more haunting effect - the insides are on the outside, morphing into unusual forms, encasing the body - both protecting it, and embracing their true inside.
