my collection is inspired by industrial apartment blocks in berlin and the traditional costume around the area of the spreewald. i wanted to express the fusion of tradition and globalization in our society. sky scrapers grow all over the world and are changing the skylines of cities immensely. people have to make an effort to preserve and include their traditional identity and the traditional identity of an area into today´s life. i, personally wanted to focus on berlin, because it is the environment i live in on a daily basis and am inspired by. gray, dull and miserable atmospheres are spread from the sight of industrial apartment blocks and dominate the silhouette of this city. interested in the tradition and history of berlin I begun researching into costumes worn around berlin and found the spreewaldtracht, neglected and unknown by most of the germans. i wanted to revive and renew this costume, which plays such a big part in the history of east germany. the bavarian costume is known all over germany and the world and is included in elements of international designers. i wanted to put the spotlight onto a less known costume and bring it to life.
