Graduating menswear designer launches debut collection specialising in Japanese-inspired jersey draping.

Thom Humphris’ Autumn/Winter 09 collection explores the unexpected beauty and the hidden pathos found in derelict buildings of the abandoned Birmingham Workhouses factories.

With an unabashed artistic spirit Thom Humphris has pattern-cut and draped from forms found in architectural ruins. Using these deconstructed, underlying structures and shapes he works in soft and unexpected fabrics. Layered silks and pleated soft wools mix with crumpled ‘armoury’ pieces and silk rope accessories creating a collection of tailored jackets, baggy slouch trousers, fine jersey tops and wool jersey all-in-ones.

The understated palette of Charcoal, Bistre and Seal Brown emphasises his skill in cutting and draping to produce a sexy, unisex product.

Humphris’ style has been described as the result of a love affair between Hedi Slimane’s silhouette and the traditional Japanese Haori. Thom Humphris has made a great impact with his debut collection, launching his personal vision for the future of menswear.
