The DISC-12 Collection tackles the problem of stigma and discrimination with the goal of encouraging and initiating care about mental hygiene. It is inspired by the works of artists who suffer mental disorders, as well as the workshop organized with the research of this theme and this particular fashion collection in mind.
A somewhat dark medium for speaking out about this problem is an article of clothing which has a long and inhumane history. It is still being used today, albeit in a different way, as a tool of secret discrimination.
The cuts were inspired by the straitjacket.
The work encompasses a detailed research of the basic function of the straitjacket, as well as research into different manners of modification with the goal of achieving new function and multifunction.
The straitjacket is modified in every manner imaginable in the collection so as to turn it into an adaptable article of clothing which symbolizes freedom/imprisoning of the psyche, depending on the current state of the individual.
Special attention is drawn to the long sleeves which permeate each clothing article in an interesting way; multiplied and positioned in an unexpected way, often functioning as a pocket or as a form of a trouser cut.
The collection represents a psychometric validation of the experience of discrimination and stigma based on the articles of clothing which, in some manner, simulate a mental disorder by themselves.
