it is a region known for its nomads, who embellish their stories on their blouses, trading a physical home for the cloth on their back and the starlit skies that light up the desert at night.

supernaturae works with rural families and NGO’s in India, to create a new aesthetic vocabulary which draws upon ancestral techniques.
in this collection, motifs are drawn from a global lexicon of visual language.

“bandhani” is one of the earliest methods of mark-making on cloth and can be uniquely traced to its region, where it is still practiced today. tattoos are stitched onto handwoven cotton, echoing the nomad’s ritual of identity through cloth.
