German-born designer, Thi Phuong Thao Nguyen, moved to London in 2019 and graduated from the Master’s Menswear course at London College of Fashion in 2021. She studied BA Womenswear at Akademie Mode & Design in Berlin, Germany. Exploring innovative yet functional menswear, Nguyen is focussing on unique pattern cutting methods which are incorporating sustainability in the process of making. DÉCOUPER Autumn Winter 2021

The AW2021 COLLECTION investigates the restrictions of traditional cutting methods and the potential for innovation by developing a process of freehand 'collage' pattern cutting and construction. This way of thinking encourages three-dimensional spatial awareness of design as a process. The making includes a reduction of waste which was achieved by active lay planning processes related to the freehand cut and a combination of the raw and established finishes used in tailoring.
