SOPHIE KULA

Sophie Kula was born in the capital of Silesia,Katowice. She is half-Russian and half-Polish. However, her heart is in Paris where most of her father's family emigrated. Since her early childhood she was artistically trained, first in dance, then in music. She attended primary music school, specialising in the flute. As a teenager, she was fascinated with painting and history of art. She was inspired by her Aunt, who graduated at the Ecole de la Chambre Synicacale de la Couture, in the 80’s. As a result Sophie had a desire to learn fashion drawing. The drawings were her first venture into the fascinating fashion world. Whilst at high school she gained experience with costume and stage design working in a Silesian theatre Later she worked with a number of different fashion studios, assisting in multiple photo shoots. She also took a summer course at the Artistic Fashion Design School in Cracow, Poland. She graduated from the “International School of Fashion Design Costumes” Warsaw, Poland in 2011. One of the highlights of her career was working as a stylist for various fashion magazines, which included dressing well known Polish celebrities. She has also worked as a designer for individual clients and companies. Her projects have been published in various publications. Sophie has been a finalist for a number of competitions such as ‘‘Off Fashion’’ , “Fashion Oscars” , Mod'Art in Paris. In 2013 she was nominated for the prize : Silesia Fashion Point. Thumbelina / Patchwork Soup is her first solo collection. During XI'th Open'er Festival , she premiered her second collection "Global Warming". Later she showed this collection at the International Fashion Festival “Neo Fashion Jamboree” in Bielsko Biala. It was also shown at the Silesia Fashion Look 2013 in Katowice. She was invited to develop an exhibition to display her designs within Pasaz Wiecha right in the heart of Warsaw. The space was created with the help of set designer, Natalia Mleczak. The result was a fabulously colourful installation. She premiered her third collection, “Sweet Memories”, in August 2013 at the “Elite Model Look Final” Competition. In January collection had french premiere at Young Fashion Designer Exhibition ArtGeorgia during Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris. Collection has been chosen into Final of Be Next Contest in Georgia. In this contest Sophie won award , summer course 2014 “Cool Hunting for empowering Professional Design Thinking” in Domus Academy in Milano. Alongside her fashion designs she has a keen interest in fashion drawing. She quotes her inspirations as coming from her travels, meeting new people and eating great food. She also finds inspiration from movies and music.
