A passion for luxury clothing brought Cissy Noordeloos and Robbert Wefers Bettink together. In 2009, the duo set up the label Sober after graduating from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, with the aim to create a sophisticated, practical wardrobe that is luxurious yet affordable for the modern, urban woman.

A philosophy of restraint
Working in the tradition of Dutch Modernism, Sober works from a specific concept and clear-cut formal idiom. The label strives to return to the essence of fashion: the cloth, the technique and the body. Each season, Sober finds inspiration from within the art world. Artists like Mark Rothko and Arjan Janssen who work within the boundaries of colour and geometry, help Sober define their ideas on silhouette and colour.
Known for their attention to detail and tailoring, their aesthetic is focused on clean lines. Sober creates a refined and simple silhouette, with a whiff of masculinity, free of any excess.

Living in the details
Sober has a knack for giving accessible, wearable clothes something extra: details always perform a function within the design. The label is devoted to fine craftsmanship: the internal structure of a garment is equally important as its external appearance. Sober believes in building a wardrobe of essentials. Each season the label strives to perfect these essentials with a measured approach, always beginning from within the detail.
The colour palette is rich in its minimalism, often containing subdued hues that are brought to life by one or two strong contrasting colours. All is executed in rich natural materials, pairing wool or cotton with silk for a modern touch.

The Sober Woman
Sober designs for the modern, urban woman with a taste for understated and refined luxury. She believes that beauty is in the detail. Sober provides her with an elegant yet comfortable wardrobe of sophisticated daywear that easily crosses over to night.
