Mumbai-raised designer and fine artist Shwetambari Mody is a dreamer and a pragmatist. She was born into a family of entrepreneurs, and from an early age, her mother inspired her creativity, painting in particular. Shwetambari's first introduction to Indian craftsmanship was when her mother took her and her sisters to visit the atelier of the late Rohit Khosla, a pioneer in Indian fashion. This exposure sparked her love and curiosity for all things design. To pursue a career in fashion, she moved to New York at seventeen to study Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Upon graduating in 2008, Shwetambari worked for a trend-based design studio where she continued to explore her understanding of the intersection of business and design. Simultaneously, she continued to paint.

In 2014, she relocated to Paris for her MBA in luxury brand management at ESSEC Business School. The teachings of savoir-faire inspired her renewed sense of heritage. She returned to New York to work with Global Brands Group on fabric research and development, further honed her skills and knowledge of all aspects of business and design, and prepared for her next big move.

In 2019, she embodied her family's entrepreneurial spirit and launched her eponymous label, SHWETAMBARI. The brand, conceived as a creative exchange between the two cultures that shaped its founder, is an ode to "karigaree", or the art of Indian craftsmanship. Each collection starts with original artwork from her colourful paintings, and what began as a creative outlet is now one of the brand's signature elements.

With offices in Mumbai and New York, the designer now shuttles between the two cities, where she continues leading SHWETAMBARI into a new generation of luxury.
