‘FRIDGES IN THE AIR’
It all started when I saw the MARGARET HOWELL A/W 2001 lookbook taken by BRUCE WEBER. I’ve been recognizing BRUCE WEBER as a photographer who takes images of "the seaside in midsummer”.
Perhaps it was because of that, when I saw the lookbook, I felt odd that it was summer, even though it was supposed to be an autumn/winter lookbook and I felt that it was somehow very beautiful.
As I unraveled that feelings, I realized that this feeling came out from the contrast.
I have always believed that one of the reasons fashion stands as fashion is contrast.
It can be a color, a silhouette, a material, a gesture, a season. The state of contrasts in one container. I believe that is fashion.
I want a big snowfall in the middle of summer.
" Such a simple and shortsighted idea became the starting point for this ISSUE.
To make a heavy snowfall in the middle of summer is to make a "trick".
If I was asked now what fashion is, I would answer, "It is a trick.”
I don’t know if it’s the best way to put it, but I think we've been coloring with it, been healed and confident. Walking on the artificial greenway with your lover,
thinking the scenery of the illuminations is beautiful,
healing at the artificial waterfall,
going camping and thinking that chilling beer in the refrigerator is more delicious than the beer chilled in the river water. To affirm out loud the power of lies and imitations to the fullest extent.
To say with a smile, "Lies, lies."
I believe that is the good thing about fashion.
I began to think that I would like to paint pictorial images.
From the beginning, I started to research the keywords "winter" and "coldness”.
As I proceeded with my research, I came across a photo book titled "Refrigerator" by Tokuko Ushioda. The book is a collection of photographs of closed and open refrigerators in all kinds of households. It is a photo book that gives a sense of the typology of Mr. and Mrs. Becher.
This book and my own view of fashion overlapped perfectly.
Refrigerators are used for the same purpose,
They look almost the same,
The contents of a refrigerator reflect a person's sense of life and sense of value.
I also realized the above logic matches into the theory
the person's personality comes to the surface.
This is what I call it myself. "The theory that this girl is cute in her graduation album. I realized that the above elements are the same as what I call the
"graduation album - this girl is cute theory.”
I believe the "graduation album - this girl's cute theory" only happens between men,
but what I mean by this, is when I met my friends in high school
and we looked at each other's middle school graduation albums,
we often talked about how cute they were and I wondered why we talked about this.
And when I thought about the reason, I came to the conclusion that
the school uniforms makes any other information indistinguishable,
so that the focus is purely on the face.
I thought about why this is;
This theory is based on the idea that uniformity can emphasize a person's personality and qualities. This is the reason why SHINYAKOZUKA had placed uniformity and work
as the basic elements of the design.
I've been thinking a little more about refrigerators, overlapping the above theory. A refrigerator is a personal commodity within a personal space,
and I thought that it is very fashionable object.
The refrigerator has become a synonym of fashion for me.
Pictorial in English. 'CASTLES IN THE AIR'. This time, he wanted to paint a pictorial in fashion. Using a synonym for his own view of fashion
'FRIDGES IN THE AIR' and titled, it was produced under the following keywords.
1: FINE FEATHERS MAKE FINE BIRDS
The uniforms are a dualistic element that both express the identity of the uniforms whilst erasing it. I want to discover the personality of the clothing,
and the person.
2: ARTIFICIAL FOX
The fox, a symbol of deceit or cheat, in both Japanese and English, is used metaphorically - and I would like to say that imitations, additives, lies, and even if they are not real,
they have power and roles and are wonderful.
I want to say that it is wonderful.
3: FABLE DRAWING
I drew this design with my cartoonish drawings, which are said to be allegorical, and then re-designed the design with the balance of the drawings.
The balance that can only be achieved in the drawing is reflected in the design as is.
The other day, I visited a live concert of a great musician.
It was a very large venue, and the greatness of his long career was on display.
More than anything else, I was simply amazed by the simplicity and completeness of his latest songs.
I thought about how being straightforward and complete is a very strong point in the creation of something.
But on the other hand, I’m sure it is precisely because of the career experience that he has gone through - what brought the strong complete conclusion.
And I realize that even if I, as a frivolous child now,
did a straightforward concept, theme, and manufacturing,
I would not be able to produce any more grace than this musician.
Therefore, I am trying to create a work that is straightforward, simple, and graceful,
and that cannot be described in any way.
Until the day, the deepest of the edgy thing emerges from the depths of my heart,
I will linger
and linger
and linger;
No matter how long I say this or that,
I will keep on expressing.
Even reading this far myself, I think it's a bit twisted.
This is the straight line that SHINYAKOZUKA is currently swinging as hard as I can.
