I am an ambitious, imaginative menswear designer specialising in knitwear. I enjoy taking inspiration from unusual cultural conventions and apply attitudes and appearances to design in an innovative, dynamic way.

Issy Miyake has been a central inspiration whilst exploring my own creativity and has stimulated me as an aspiring designer. The way Miyake is able to mould fabric around the body incorporating structure, colour and texture in a controlled yet energetic way, is something that I find fascinating and strive for when developing my own personal, recognisable style.

I feel the only limit to design is a stifled imagination. Intrigue, focus and resourcefulness are key to working within design and these are traits I intend to employ whilst pursing my career in the fashion industry.

Rival Lovers

‘Rival Lovers’ is inspired by a Japanese biker gang, the Bosozoku.

They are the outsiders of society, well known for customising motorbikes and their uniforms, with gang names and symbols. This customisation has been employed through the use of extensive embroidery and digital shima knitting.

Drawing from the Bosozoku, 20th century artists the Mono-ha and graphic designer Tanaka Ikko, the colour palette is predominantly monochrome with a striking red running throughout, illustrated through gathered knitwear. The soft knitwear pieces contrast with dramatic oversized silhouettes and are mostly accompanied with a striped top and high-waist, wide-leg trouser. Producing a silhouette that depicts strong angular lines combined with organic, smooth curves. The use opulent fabrics and yarns accentuate the Bosozoku biker’s meticulous consideration in portraying their identity. The intention for the collection is to embody an intimidating and ferocious gang contrasted by complex embellishment and delicate knitwear.
