My name is Rachel Grandinetti, and since when I was a child I had a fascination with fabrics, which made me cut my mother’s best party dresses to make clothes for my dolls. Observing my desire to create, I was able to develop my sensitivity through various courses.

I graduated in Fashion Design with a Masters in Marketing. Still in Brazil, I had the opportunity to present my collections, with a fashion show in the line-up of the prestigious “Casa dos Criadores“ (Sao Paulo) the main launcher of new talents in Brazil.

I came to Europe in order to improve my work and looking for challenging opportunities to expand my participation in the fashion market.

The pursuit of academic knowledge and practical is constant, always renewing and perfecting my work. I already complete two courses at Central Saint Martins, where I studied "Fashion Design and Marketing" and “Pattern making - Experimental and Explorative Approaches", in Dublin I complete with distinction the "Fashion Buying and Merchandising" course in Portobello Institute.

With this knowledge I intend to make possible my own brand, whose purpose is to bring to the niche of young consumers, quality and creativity through innovative fabrics, shapes, embroidery, and other refinements, which ensures exclusivity and elegance and femininity.

"Elle veut être Admirée”

Winter 2010 - Rachel Grandinetti was the winner of “Projeto Box” with the collection: "Elle veut être Admirée” (she wants to be admired), being contemplated with the participation in the line up of the “Casa dos Criadores” (creator’s house) in Sao Paulo.

The French people is admirable for their institutions, principles of democracy and political freedom. I have belief in
the greatness of the French Revolution,however, when considering the same period from the perspective of fashion
history, it is evident the importance of an aesthetic work performed by an innovative figure who transgressed the rigid etiquette of Versailles, becoming one of the biggest scandals symbols at her time, Marie Antoinette. There is no denying the importance of her experiences with fashion, though its consequences have been tragic.

Her attitudes, clothing and accessories were expressions challenging the autonomy and prestige. Marie
Antoinette was the only queen to eclipse her husband, as the center of attention and this was seen as an affront to the sacred authority of the king. Criticized by her clothes often imitated, the queen wore masculine riding habit, eccentric hairstyles and hats, the innovative chemise dress (that was subsequently adopted by the revolutionaries) and a collection of clothes that filled three entire rooms of Versailles. The fashion, paradoxically, was her triumph and downfall.

My project for the collection of womens wear ready-to-wear is directed to the capture of elements used by Marie Antoinette related to our current context.
