The ‘PostRaphaelites’ is the first collection from SuperCollider - colliding the PreRaphaelite with ‘Blade Runner’ & cyberpunk. This strange ‘mash-up’ exemplifies the creative process of SuperColliderFashion. The Pre-Raphaelite’s main concerns were abundant detail, surface patterns intense colours, and complex compositions. My own work also uses these elements to create a garment: intricate knitwear, bright colours and creative pattern cutting all work together to form my collection. The Pre-Raphaelites looked back at history and used mythology and stories for inspiration, I’m using the work of the Pre-Raphaelites in the same way. As a counterpoint to the PreRaphaelites I chose to look at Ridley Scott’s seminal film ‘Blade Runner’- a modern day, cyberpunk vision of the future. I’ve focused on the replicants, the human clones, who like in many of the figures in Pre-Raphaelite paintings were other worldly, non-humans and in particular, the character Pris who shared many of the femme fatale qualities that paintings such as Prosperpine by Dante Gabriel Rosetti, portrayed. I decided to montage/collide the mutant muse from both worlds so that this ‘collision’ would become my reference point for the fabrics, designs, colour and details of the Post-Raphaelite collection.
