The collection is inspired by my friend's experience of being bullied and body shamed at school. In the era of social media, our self-image is stretched to an extreme and sometimes it can be scary. My research includes works of my favorite Manga artist Ito Junji, surrealism artist like Salvador Dali and Dorothea Tanning and digital artist Jesse Kanda. In their work, I see how human body transform and unfold without gravity. The result can be very dehumanized and provocative.
Junji's manga explores the complex and psychotic pressure of the rigid Japanese society and how it manifests as deformed human body and violent horror under the male gaze. Using various fabric manipulation and exaggerate silhouette, I try to translate the horror and tension into clothing.
