Onticha is a womenswear brand aiming to redefine tailoring in contemporary Australian fashion. Designed by Onticha Sawasdee, she was included in a select group of young designers who showcased one of her range called “Rustic, Rural and Metropolis” in the Innovators section of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2015. As part of her Bachelor of Fashion Design's graduate collection, a second collection entitled "Purism" was created.
Sawasdee is a holder of a Bachelor of Fashion Design from The Fashion Design Studio (Ultimo TAFE) and Certificate III in Fashion Design from Whitehouse School of Fashion. She was inspired to pursue a career in the fashion industry at a young whilst being raised in rural Thailand. This exposed her to silk farming and the traditional cottage industry of fabric production.
Onticha's key philosophical principal is to create an aesthetic with a theme of minimalism to allow synchronicity between modernity and wearability. Its aim is to expand and challenge the common perception of tailoring. To create a tailored collection which is suitable to wear in a wider range of settings. Sawasdee also integrated the overriding philosophy of her label which is to design in a manner so that the fabric speaks for itself.
