Olivia Warren

My graduate collection ‘Geometry in Motion’ enters the world of performance wear, to be worn in a performative space and body. Each look is an interpretation of movement and how it can be achieved in different ways through pattern cutting, structural elements and print.
Artists such as Sonia Delaunay and Oscar Schlemmer, from the Bauhaus movement, act as a source of inspiration for my collection in how they intersected shape, colour and movement into fashion and the performing arts.
Playing with pop-up tents sparked the idea of experimenting with shapes and manipulating structures on the body, following the intuitive movement of the body for performance.
I explored zero waste pattern cutting techniques such as subtraction cutting to challenge me to be more considered and responsible in design, ultimately leading to a more creative approach to cutting and experimental silhouettes. This collection encompasses my desire to understand the moving body’s relationship to garments and the transformative possibilities of design intersected with dance.
