A continuous dialogue between aesthetics and meaning.

Bregje Cox graduated in 2009 at the Maastricht Academy of fine arts with her collection : Abuse of power comes as no surprise. In this collection she used her research on the power symbols of the ainu people and combined this with images of the architectural superstructures that we will be living in. Fascinated by this combination of ancient cultures and futuristic developments she started working on her own label : Noir Near Future.

Noir Near Future tries to show a transition from ancient cultures into a more futuristic type of beauty.

Looking for meaning through the constant research into the functionality of garments and combining this with the visual identity found in ethnic garments.
In this research the emphasis is on the use of high quality (ecological) materials as well as finding new solutions to improve the fit and form of clothes to enhance the shape of each body in the best way possible.

Furthermore as a modern label Noir Near Future finds it important that our products not only are of a high quality, but that they are made in Europe as well.

Fantasies of Anxiety

This collection is a reflection of the anxiety one might feel when having to go through the creative proces,inspired by the the concept of anxiety by Kierkegaard.
The mere fact that one has the possibility and freedom to do something, even the most terrifying of possibilities, triggers immense feelings of dread.
An individual becomes truly aware of their potential through the experience of anxiety

Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom.

Anxiety is unfocused fear.

Anxiety has the same root as light.

Kierkegaard is wondering if one generation can learn wonder, love, anxiety, peace, patience, hope, from a previous generation or if each "single individual" in each generation must learn these things, for the most part, on their own

For this collection the inspiration comes from the feeling of anxiety one can have when working on new creative concepts.
The prints are inspired by computer art from the 80’s which give a techno feeling to the collection.
The collection starts out with black and white prints and slowly adds color to end up with lighter, colorful silhouettes.
This is to show the transition from anxiety into realization. ( it also shows that anxiety has the same root as light )
