Nauva Nauva

Nauva introduces her A/W collection entitled “Ethnic Suprematism”. Her main inspiration goes back to the famous
russian artist Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935) pioneering the art movement Suprematism of using fundamental geometric forms such as circle or square. She presents an original and unique idea of applying this pattern concept in sarong (a length of fabric wrapped around the waist and worn by men and women in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Arabian Peninsula). Nauva is very familiar with sarongs in particular with traditional batik from Indonesia, where she originally comes from.

With this collection, she would like to bring the use of sarong in winter, where wool and thick cotton are used for the main material. Also, differently from the commonly used colors in sarongs, she uses an unusual combination between dark and light colors. On the other hand, the Suprematism concept manifests its form in the patterns such as stripes, karo (square), herringbone. The color combination, the shapes and the used patterns result in a unique mixture of traditions and modernity.
