VAPWKW is a collection inspired by the music and art micro-genre VAPorwave, and Wong Kar Wai's masterpiece 'In the Mood For Love'. The collection contains dark colored fabrics and iridescent plastic associated with Vaporwave, which mixes nostalgic and surrealist references. 'In the Mood For Love' provides aesthetic inspiration of Hong Kong in the 1960's, through color, texture, print and written text extracted from the film and subverted to create unique and contemporary fabric manipulations. Texture is created through multi-colored embroidery applied to denim and bonded jersey. Laser engravings on denim were inspired by the wallpaper prints from the film. Heat transfer tape was laser cut and bonded to digitally printed textiles. Dramatic shapes and silhouettes were achieved by draping on the form. The target customer is women age 18 to 35, who love unique streetwear.
