Michalina Szurgot graduated from the Academy of Art in Poland in 2015r. She often uses self-made printed textiles, dyed fabrics and handmade embroideries and appliques in her fashion projects. She deals with graphic design, as well.

2nd

The inspiration for creating clothing collection named “2nd” were possibilities brought by modern
technologies of printing and dying textiles along with the idea of combining them with handcrafted
workbench – appliques and embroideries.
The objective of mixing technology and craftwork was to deny the idea of “fast fashion” that is the mass
production of clothes manufactured without taking care of product quality. It is a phenomenon of churning out massive quantities of identical garments, available in every shop, which purpose isn’t a unique artistic
impression but solely generation of quick profits for manufacturers.
By means of time-consumming handmade embroideries I wanted to bring “slow fashion” values to
attention, that is to deny mass overproduction of identical clothes created without any idea behind them
and without the designers involvement.
The “2nd" is a collection destined for autumn/winter season of 2016.
