Mayada has her roots in two worlds, Jordan and the United Kingdom. She identifies with second generation Arabs in western countries and is highly influenced by traditional Arabic culture and Bedouin techniques, elements she plays with in her work. Growing up in the metropolitan city of London, street wear has also inspired Mayada in her designs.
After studying design for six years at three different schools and acquiring work experience with some of the best in the business; with the likes of Luella and Christopher Kane, May has taken what she has learnt from these places and made a strong design identity of her own. Her designs are simple and hard at the same time. It has the attitude of the street, mixed with the craftsmanship of the Bedouin tribes. She designs clothes that convey a message, they tell the story of the youth that has had their identity formed by two different worlds, and that lives in both.
