Matthew O'Brien

Entering fashion at the young age of 15 Matthew O'Brien started his first clothing label. Focusing on menswear he was able to develop his design aesthetic, leading him into womenswear where he was able to excel.
Matthews’s strong eye for detail and focus on structure and shape, facilitates the use of unconventional fabrics within his designs. Taking a keen interest in print design his latest collection exhibits his sharp monochrome prints with highlights of colour, against the sharp angular forms created on the body. Matthew’s ability to create fantastic contemporary aesthetics, whilst somehow using historical referencing, amalgamating electronics with fashion, borrowing architectural shape and form, along with integrated electronics, has made him a pioneer for a unique direction in fashion.
Whilst still only in the early stages of his career, Matthew has secured a number of prominent awards as well as exhibiting his collections around the world on the most prestigious catwalks. His passion and determination has landed him many accolades propelling him onto our screens and into our homes as a TV personality, taking his title as Britain’s top designer around the world, judging and mentoring on the hit TV show Design Genius for Fashion One TV, premiering in November 2014.
Upon returning to the UK Matthew has taken on many projects as well as being appointed Head of Design and Costume at The Giant Manufacturing Company LTD, where he is in charge of the design and costume direction.
