1. Line - the use of line to ‘get to know’
Everything in the collection is focused around line. The line of the thread, the line of the fabric, the lines on the faces.
Using Dryden Goodwin’s work as inspiration:
'The veil of drawn marks imposed on the people drawn by Goodwin complicates and distorts the usual dynamic between a viewer and the person in a portrait photograph. The drawing on the photograph acts as an ever present remnant of the artist’s own time investment, a by product of the processes of thought about these essentially unknowable individuals.'
I think that the gesture of mapping a face with lines could maybe be construed as an act of violence, however it also has a tenderness and intimacy - particular features and expressions being made out in a delicate way.
In order to represent individuals who I feel are worthy of representation, I want to use line in order to trace and reproduce their face giving the love and care and attention that makes both their time investment in their own line of work and my time investment noted.
2- Craft
Craft: the use of line and thread to create a beautiful texture is something that has beome really improtnat in my work. I want the inside of the garment to be as beautiful as the outside: as with the film you can see that there is two different sides of the human affected by different elements in their life.
Kaat Debo states, “an introduction to a type of aesthetic which people might not come across every day. It broadens the horizons of the viewer, forces them to look at fashion from a different angle.”
In other words, if the art of fashion is executed well, it has the power to renew our view of the word and lets us experience it through visionary eyes.

An Instagram Generation
Who are today’s icons? Are they worthy of iconisation? Why are people who are on instagram judged as ‘cool’? *
“fameballs” – individuals whose fame snowballs because journalists cover what they think of other people want them to cover. The idea that coverage of Kim Kardashians photo shot with paper magazine, rihannas battle with instagram over topless photos, biebers arrests, and Amanda bynes errati online behavior all get people talking due to shock value.
Controversial and provocative subjects elicit an emotional response of astonishment and even ridicule – from online communities due to high profile subjects.
‘selfies’ ˈsɛlfi/ : a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.
Personal Branding: The concept of personal branding has never been more important due to the changes we are seeing in the digital landscape.
The entire concept of what it means to be a celebrity is changing and a louder voice for the verday user of social media is emerging.
We should be representing people who are worthy of representation. MAKE GREAT PEOPLE COOL.
