Born in Austin, Texas, Mady Berry moved to Chicago in 2012 to study Fashion and Textile Design at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with emphasis in Fashion Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in May of 2016. She is now undergoing an MA in Costume Design for Performance at London College of Fashion (2017-2018). Mady has worked for Bernhard Willhelm in Los Angeles, Vivienne Westwood in London and Walter Van Beirendonck in Antwerp. Her work has been featured in Paper Magazine, Bullett Magazine, Refigural Magazine, and Women's Wear Daily among others.

Mady is a storyteller, creating her own reality by means of humor, hyperbole and disguise. Her work aims to be approachable, yet beneath the surface suggesting feelings of unease. She is interested in how a garment can create a mysticism surrounding the wearer and how something familiar can be presented in a foreign or unfamiliar way. Through fabric and texture manipulation, whether it is knitting, beading, shredding she gives her garments a life of their own. Firstly, she is a painter. The process of translating her paintings to fabric is an important facet of her practice. She does this through screen-printing and painting directly on the fabric with dyes. She aims to create an imaginative world, which transforms reality.
