“Kiss this!” is the combination of two periods in history
that expresses my aspirations and desires.
The opulence and ludicrousness of 17th century French royalty, especially Marie
Antoinette, intrigues me and after watching the Sofia Coppola film, Marie Antoinette,
I was inspired as Coppola modernises the film through the local dialects of actors &
a colour palette of bright pastels in the traditional costume & throughout the sets.
Using these ideals I shall combine this concept with the rebelliousness of punk rock from
the late 1970’s. Looking at the style, ideals & bands, such as the Clash, from that decade.
Marie Antoinette and the Rococo style are incredibly luxurious with an over the top
‘Ridiculous’ thrown in. Adam Ant also played a huge role within my inspiration with his eccentricities and lavish dress sense. As a look on the whole it is very feminine, I intend to combine this image with a masculine edge drawing inspiration from 1970’s punk rock. With a combination
of lavishly floral print and embellished fabrics clashing with pin stripe suiting and shirting will emphasize the coming together of these two iconic periods in history creating an ‘over the top’ partnership between the them without one shining through more so than the other.
With a colour palette that would be very much at home in a patisserie, covered in dust,
with accents of rich cherry red and black to give a shocking unexpected punch.
