Lygia Demades

Lygia Demades created her company in 2004 out of her passion and love for jewelry. With her motto “jewels are made to be worn”, she became one of the leading jewelers in Cyprus, presenting many international brands while at the same time designing and creating one-of-a-kind and custom made jewelry for her clients.

In 2006 her creations were being sold in two well-known Jewelry Boutiques in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2014 she decided to forget about other international brands and focus on the launch of her own signature collection of bespoke one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewels.

The story started in 1956 when Lygia’s grandfather, Georgios Stamatis of Greek origin moved to Cyprus after he met his wife, Athina Karakanna in Athens and they decided to move to Cyprus and start their own business. Georgios was very active, born to be a real entrepreneur; he started importing Pharmaceutical Products, Luxury Goods and last but not least jewelry and watches.
Lygia grew up surrounded by beautiful things, spending manyafternoons in the family jewelry boutique, touching and examining the jewels. Her love for art and design was evident from a very young age. By the age of 5, she knew exactly what she wanted to study later on.
At the age of 17.5 years old Lygia moved to Lausanne Switzerland, to continue her studies in Art, Interior Design and then Hotel Management. Art and Interior Design gave her the skill to design, express her ideas into drawings, master the combinations of colors, inspire her through her creations,

and urge her to create in order to feel alive, while Hotel Management offered her the discipline, the organization, the strength to overcome any obstacle and the drive to succeed.
Between 1995 and 1997 her love of jewelry drove her to Sotheby’s in Geneva where she studied the History and Evolution of Jewelry Design, a fact that one might notice on her creations.
There is this evidence and nostalgia of the past, yet her jewels aspire a modern dynamism only present in our times. This combination becomes a contrast, but a contrast perfectly balanced and harmonious.
At the present time Lygia can be found somewhere between Nicosia, Geneva, Milan, London and Antwerp in search of concreting her dreams into reality.
