Born in Beijing and based in New York City, Lavender Xu moved to New York to attend Syracuse University followed by London College of Fashion with the University of the Arts London. This experience placed her later into work experiences with Diane Von Furstenberg studio, J. Crew and the House of Tommy Hilfiger.

Her Mu Collection was included in the Top 100 Young Emerging designers supported by the Council of Fashion Design In America ( CFDA). Vice president and Creative Director of Calvin Klein / Bergdorf Goodman Andy Basile highlighted this work on his blog, " Putting small but tough triangle pieces together into one great unit...because of the constant movement of light and garments, the smaller wood pieces commute from brightness to shadow." Emerging Fashion Designers published by Schiffer publishing worldwide will include the body of work this year.

MU-Wood

This collection explores the idea of modern architecture’s influence on fashion, starting with small elements, morphing into larger structures. Based on nature’s design and the way we live in this ecosystem, the garments are built up out of small elements like molecules and cells following the basic structure of life - just as the human body does.

Experimental textile plays a big part in this collection as can be seen in the use of pieces of veneers and linen. As Nature has no waste, the fabric picks up the idea of recycling while the architectural approach leads to structured shapes and silhouettes to differ from the eco-fashion. From Micro to Macro system, everything is based on the same structure of triangle elements.
