Born in Morocco, designer Laila Azhar first moved to the United States with her family at the age of five. She spent her childhood traveling between Morocco and Washington, D.C., before finally moving to Canada to attend McGill University in Montreal where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.

After moving to New York in 2002, Laila opted to change course and to pursue her life long dream of becoming a fashion designer. She enrolled at Parsons the New School for Design, and after working as a designer in New York for several years, she launched the label Laila Azhar in 2006, which was distributed to over 100 retailers including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Barneys.

In 2010, Laila was approached by Barneys New York to design their private label for women’s dresses That partnership eventually grew to include all categories in womens clothing, and continues on today.

Laila Azhar was re-launched in 2015 to respond to the needs of women with sophisticated taste who value subtle detailing, quality made clothing, exceptional fit, and a clean modern aesthetic. Each garment juxtaposes contrasting textures and fabrics to achieve the perfect balance of sophistication and nonchalance. Her personal style reflects the pure elegance of simplicity with a taste for uniquely sculpted silhouettes that thrive on understatement.
