Founded in 2007 by Gosia Piatek, Kowtow is a label committed to creating positive change. We make a conscious decision to only use renewable and sustainable fibres and ethical manufacturing to deliver collections that are utilitarian, minimal with an understated femininity.

All of our garments are made at SA8000 certified manufacturers in India. The SA8000 standard encourages manufacturers to develop, maintain, and apply socially acceptable practices in the workplace. All our cotton is certified by Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO). Fairtrade empowers farmers to negotiate with buyers to secure better prices for their cotton. We develop and manufacture all our fabrics from yarn. Our in-house design team selects the weight, colour and print for every fabric making all fabrics unique to us. From design to store, this process takes 18 months, a longer process than most brands. We aim to make fabric that stands the test of time.

All Kowtow garments are made from natural fibres that are certified sustainable & ethical by non-profit internationally recognised organisations. The core of our collection is made using Fairtrade organic cotton, a biodegradable fibre certified by Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO). It is organically farmed, free from genetically modified seeds, rain-fed & hand-picked. This season we've introduced ZQ merino wool to our knitwear which is a renewable & biodegradable fibre farmed with the highest grade of animal welfare certification.

All our processing & manufacturing is done with sustainability in mind, from the environmentally friendly dyes to safe workplaces. We use Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) approved inks & dyes for our organic cotton & Bluesign system processing & dyes for our merino wool, all free from harmful substances & ensure sustainable use & treatment of water.

We also only source sustainable trims. Our buttons are made in Italy from recycled hemp. Our denim tacks are made in Germany & are nickel-free. They are tested by OEKO-TEX for harmful substances & come under the Eco-Management & Audit Scheme (EMAS) and ISO 14000 environmental management standard.
