Experiences of speed vary from slower bodily movements such as walking or jogging, to higher speeds like being on a roller coaster, to even moving at unimaginable hyper speeds. These variations of speed correlate with the emotions one feels when experiencing them. I explore this theme of movement and speed, and the resulting emotions and experiences, in my conceptual design collection.

To suggest varying levels of speed, I utilized a draping element to express slower movements in the first look, and moved towards hyper speed as the collection progressed. The silhouettes are gradually simplified throughout the collection to express the blurriness and eventual abstraction of hyper speed. I combined lighter fabrics, such as organza, polyester, and silk gazar, with heavier fabrics like thick silk satin, suiting wool, and padding, and layered the fabrics together to style the theme of “speed” in different ways. Through this process I focused on giving shape and structure to movement. Finally, I chose high-tech nylon fabric to pleat it.
