Kaiwen Shi is a graduate student from Parsons School of Design majored in MFA Fashion Design and Society. Before, She studied fashion design in Tsinghua university in Beijing. Specialized in both garment making and graphic design, her personal style is very vivid, joyful and childlike, which has the sense of humor as well. Respecting the hand craft so much, She always willing to try new techniques to invite exciting textiles. With her sophisticated crafting skills and precious childlike quality, the world she created become a sanctuary for people who want to breathe in the complicated social life.

A trip in the real world fantasy

As a child, Kaiwen was so amazed by the dramatic, powerful expression of animations, things that will never happen in reality always take place normally in the animation world. Truly moved by the narratives like small things and people have this ability to gain super power, She began to long for this nonexistent power in life.

In her collection, She is doing the same things as she is creating comics, but this time the canvas is real life, She drew her childhood stories as comics, and then extracted the characters, turned them into different looks. She is very curious in this tension between imaginary fantasy and real life, and comic is her fantasy land to recreate things and people She knows in real life.
