‘Amorphia’ is about the connection between the body and our clothes. It is about the body- transformative power of fashion. Clothes as an extension of the body, physically and metaphorically, a second skin to our own. To be amorphous means to not have a definable shape. Fashion and our bodies change all the time, our bodies are reinvented through fashion. And in a way that is all there is: the body in a perpetual state of becoming, never reaching a final form."
The intention of my project was to investigate the link between our body and clothes, between the subject and the object, and the categories in-between. The project is meant as a dialogue about our clothing and how it reshapes our bodies continuously. Thus, it is not about a specific body type(s) or style of garment, but more so about the state of becoming; about a bodily process of transformation through clothes, one that never ends. In essence, Amorphia is about storytelling and a thematic exploration of body and clothes rather than suggesting practical design solutions for e.g., various body types. In other words, it is not about saving the body from fashion, but on the contrary about fashion’s astonishing ability to reimagine the body if we explore that potential. The body is never just a body; both by itself, as it chnges through our lifespan, and especially through the media of clothing, it is in an eternal process of self-discovery, a body forever in flux; never stagnating or settling for one shape, always Amorphic.
