Joseph Ryan

Joseph Ryan is a menswear brand that is based around the notion of developing historic menswear silhouettes, with the use of innovative and luxury fabrication through precise detail and finishings. Our creative process commences, frequently, with research into archives and vintage pieces of menswear, paying particular attention to workwear and utility pieces, their innate functionality alongside their classic design and silhouette. This enables us to retain the classic menswear silhouette together with its original intended practical use, such as warmth or layering. By developing its finish and feel, through the use of stitch, texture and more luxurious fibres, it elevates a once regular piece, found in most wardrobes, into something far more special and exuberant.

Our most recent collection pays particular attention to the relationship between the classic menswear wardrobe staples and historic workwear. Much attention is also given to key historical uses of menswear clothing, including protective clothing and the use of layering in Britain’s mining industry. The fine layers used by French farmers in the 1940s, and even paying attention the requirements of Antarctic explorers for warmth as inspiration for outerwear and durable knit pieces.
