Glasgow-born designer Joanne McGillivray always knew fashion was going to be a big part of her life. Whether it was her grandfather making clothes for his daughters or her mother working as seamstress, garments and fashion were a way of life for her.
During University, Joanne spent her summer months interning at Selfridges and working as a design assistant to London-based designer Kinder Aggugini.
Joanne worked on three collections, preparation for London Fashion Week and Kinder’s collaboration with the English National Ballet. Kinder has nothing but great things to say about Joanne:
“It is always good to have a Scot working in my Studio but Joanne has immense talent and is one to watch!”
Soon after graduating from Heriot-Watt University in 2012 Joanne won the prestigious award of Graduate of the Year from the Scottish Fashion Awards. As a result, Joanne worked with Marks & Spencer to put her winning design into production. The dress will go on sale across all Marks & Spencer stores in May 2013.
Tessa Hartmann, Chair of the Scottish Fashion Awards, also thinks highly of Joanne and her work:
“Joanne came from a highly competitive group of fine young graduates but there was something quite mature about her approach. She followed the brief brilliantly and produced a contemporary, fluid and perfect gown for the brand. Her concept was refreshing and very ‘of the moment’. I have no doubt this is a lady who will progress to great things in the fashion world.”
Joanne McGillivray is a contemporary womenswear brand catering to the premium section of the fashion industry. Joanne’s main aim is to produce a sustainable brand with a high design quality.
