Joanna Startek

Joanna Startek comes from a new generation of Polish designers. She was born and raised in Lublin, in the east of Poland. Fashion has not always been the first career choice for Joanna. What started out as a general interest in art eventually morphed into a strong passion for painting and drawing. At that point, it was clear that further exploration would require pursuing an artistic major. After high school she decided to further improve her manual skills and moved to Warsaw to study at the Department of Interior Design (2005-2007). The years of studying were marked by the growing interest in the world of design and finally turned Joanna to fashion.
After two years, she inadvertently – in fact it happened by accident – enrolled in the fashion design program and moved to Lodz where finally, in 2012, she graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts with a diploma in Fashion Design and Textile Print.
After completing her Master's degree, she decided to create clothes under her own name. She debuted the Joanna Startek label in 2012 with "Once Upon a Time" collection. Since then she has gained significant recognition and praise, including the Grand Prize of the Rector of Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz for the best diploma project, the Debut of the Year 2012 award given by the Fashion Magazine, and an award granted by the Elle magazine which called her collection “the discovery of Lodz Fashion Week.” She was a finalist of numerous polish fashion competitions.
What is characteristic of Joanna Startek is her fascination in minimal and conceptual art that has always inspired simple and timeless collections. That and outside stimuli. Collecting all these impressions, images but also inspiration found in movies, she develops her own point of view on modern, casual style for men.
