Iro iro in Japanese means a variety, many ways, many kinds
Every Iro iro product is made using the pre-consumer waste fabric, hand-woven into new fabric.
Zero-waste pattern cutting technique has been applied.
These products consume waste fabric (that otherwise would have been dumped in land fills) and creates zero-waste.
The value chain shaped creates employment and empowers women.
Irō Irō skills have been applied to make sure the creation is of best quality, has elevated craftsmanship, and is sustainable, conscious, ethical and versatile.
The creations have been through a unique adventure, a journey of their own. From landfills, to the floors of the cutting rooms, from being expensive handkerchief to piles of scrap, and now to personal treasures and items of value, like a museum artifact.
The new type of fabric that has been used to make the products has been produced using only pre-consumer waste. Creation of Iro Iro products reduces and consumes waste fabric, sustains livelihood of artisans (weavers) and creates employment.
Owning to the fact that, textiles never lose their value, they are just seen differently at different stages. This difference in perception needs to be communicated. At Iro Iro we always see an opportunity to design as an opportunity to communicate.
