Hikari no Yami is Japanese for (finding the darkness in light). The brand was founded by Jakarie Whitaker in 2019, specializing in avant- garde deconstructed tailoring and streetwear. Hikari no Yami is all about combining dualistic philosophical ideas and transforming them into tangible, wearable, sustainable garments. With Hikari no Yami it is always about: The freedom to create, to create without rules, restraints, expectations, or limitations. Hikari no Yami can be summed up with one quote: “The only way to deal with an unfree world is to be absolutely, that way your very existence is an act of rebellion.” –Albert Camus The brand acts as a conduit for balance between worlds. Hikari no Yami is Light and Darkness, Yin and Yang, Chaos and Order, Male and Female, Reconstruction and Deconstruction. The brand exists for the sole purpose of bringing these ideals into existence. With this brand, it was imperative to add the Japanese philosophies of Wabi-Sabi and Kintsugi to every garment. Each garment represents the concept of imperfect perfection, pieced together by fate itself.
