Autopsy of a Dress (Theme II: Dem Ich)

The collection consists of three blocks representing three aspects in Freud’s structural model of the psyche. However, the focus is slightly different from the classic theory: in GUZUNDSTRAUS vision, ‘dem Es’ is playing its common role representing the instinctual aspect; ‘dem Ich’ is supposed to be controlled by an organised and rational essence; while ‘dem Über-Ich’ refuses its moralising role and goes for uncontrolled instincts and primal spontaneity with the whole power of a super-ego. In this way, the character of the project evolves from a carnal creature through conscious ratio into a voluptuous over-entity. The spectator plays the role of an observer of the development, carrying out the mental autopsy of the subject at all stages of evolution.
